Jagat Prakash Nadda, the Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare, declared that 10th of February will be recognized as ‘the National Deworming Day’ in India.

Mr. Nanda launched the National Deworming Initiative on 9th February 2015. The initiative is aimed to prevent all pre-school and school-age children (enrolled and non-enrolled) between the ages of 1-19 years from getting into the diseases from intestinal worms.

For reducing the threat of intestinal worms on children’s body, Albendazole tablets will be given to them.

About National Deworming Day

National Deworming Day is an initiative to protect children under age of 19 years from the threat of parasitic worm infections. This infection is a widespread health issue which is affecting over 24 crore children in India alone.

Jagat Prakash Nadda declared 10th Feb as National Deworming Day and has launched the initiative for this purpose which will be carried out in two phases.

1. First Phase

This will be carried out on 10th Feb and will cover about 14 crore children across eleven States/UT of Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Haryana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Tripura.

2. Second Phase

This second phase will be carried out between 11 February and 14 February 2015 and during this period, rest 10 crore children will be targeted.

Children up to the age of 5 years will be given the medicines at Anganwadi centres, while the children in age group of 6 to 19 years will be provided the medication at all government schools.
