1. Eastern Peripheral Expressway and Phase-I of Delhi-Meerut Expressway inaugurated by PM:

 

The Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi inaugurated two newly built expressways in the Delhi NCR Region.

 

 

Phase-I of the Delhi-Meerut Expressway, stretching from Nizamuddin Bridge to Delhi UP Border. It is 14 lane, access controlled.

 

Eastern Peripheral Expressway to be dedicated to the nation is the 135 km long. It is stretching from Kundli on NH1 to Palwal on NH2.

 

The Delhi Meerut Expressway will significantly reduce travel times from the National Capital to Meerut, and to several other parts of Western Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand when it will be completed.

 

 

 

2. Himachal Pradesh launched three new welfare schemes:

 

Mr. Jai Ram Thakur, the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh has launched three welfare schemes i.e. “Jan Manch”, “Mukhya Mantri Swavlamban Yojana” and “Himachal Grihini Suvidha Yojna”

 

 

The first scheme “Jay Manch” aimed to redressal of public grievances.

 

To provide assistance to the unemployed youth, “Mukhya Mantri Swavlamban Yojana” was launched.

 

“Himachal Grihini Suvidha Yojana” was launched for offering gas cylinder security and gas stoves to those not covered under the Ujjwala Yojana.

 

 

 

3. 9th edition of “Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav” organized in Tehri, Uttarakhand:

 

The 3 day long diversified cultural festival “Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav” has organized by the Ministry of Culture which was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand in Tehri, Uttarakhand.

 

 

4. 4th International Yoga Day Celebrations Will Organize in Dehradun:

 

Mr. Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of AYUSH announced that the main event of 4th International Yoga Day celebrations (IDY-2018) will be held on 21st June 2018 at Dehradun in Uttarakhand

 

 

 

5. IMD teamed up with BSNL for sending extreme weather warning:

 

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has teamed up with BSNL to send extreme weather alerts to people.

 

 

 The warning will be about impending extreme weather conditions such as thunderstorms and heatwaves.

 

If users happen to be in place likely to experience extreme weather conditions, even if their phone numbers do not belong to that particular telecom circle then BSNL will send area-specific alerts to them.

 

 

 

6. Government to provide INR 28 crores for Brahmaputra Study Centre at Gauhati University:

 

Dr. Jitendra Singh announced that the Government has approved a fund of about Rs. 28 crores for setting up of an exclusive “Brahmaputra Study Centre” at Gauhati University.

 

 

The fund will be provided by the Ministry of DoNER.

 

The Vice-Chancellor of Gauhati University, Dr Mridul Hazarika, who called on Dr Jitendra Singh, said that the University has decided to provide land within the campus for a separate block for the Brahmaputra Study Centre / Department.

 

 

 

7. R.K. Singh, Minister of State (I/C) for Power launched PRAAPTI App:

 

Hon’ble Minister of State (I/C) for Power, Mr. R.K. Singh has launched Web portal and an App namely PRAAPTI (Payment Ratification And Analysis in Power procurement for bringing Transparency in Invoicing of generators), www.praapti.in officially.

 

 

This app has been developed to bring transparency in power purchase transaction between Generator and Discoms.

 

This will capture the Invoicing and payment data for various long term PPAs from the Generators.

 

This app and web portal will help the stakeholders in getting month-wise and legacy data on outstanding amounts of Discoms against power purchase.

 

 

 

8. Third Meeting of India – U.K. Home Affairs’ Dialogue Held:

 

The 3rd Home Affairs’ Dialogue was held between India and U.K. in Mumbai on 30th May 2018.

 

 

The Government of India Delegation was led by Shri Rajiv Gauba, Union Home Secretary and the Delegation from Home Office of the U.K. was led by its Second Permanent Secretary, Ms. Patsy Wilkinson.

 

This meeting covered the issues including cyber security, women safety, organized crime, terror financing etc. and a need to put in place a mechanism for timely exchange of information and intelligence inputs on such issues.

 

 

 

9. Construction of another 1.5 lakh affordable houses approved under PMAY:

 

The construction of another 1.5 lakh affordable houses for the benefit of urban poor under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) has been approved by the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs with an investment of INR 7,227 crores with central assistance of INR 2,209 crores.

 

 

This approval was given in the 34th meeting of the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee.

 

Cumulative houses under PMAY (U) would be 47,52,751 houses with the above proposed houses.

 

 

 

10. Andhra Pradesh got new state bird and state flower:

 

The government of Andhra Pradesh has announced its state symbols after the four years of bifurcation of the state.

 

 

Now the state bird of Andhra Pradesh is Rama Chiluka (Psittacula Krameri) or rose ringed parakeet.

 

Jasmine has been opted as a state flower by the Government of Andhra Pradesh.

 

 

11. Government introduced a new scheme “Seva Bhoj Yojana”:

 

A new scheme namely “Seva Bhoj Yojana” has been introduced by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India with a total outlay of INR 325 crores for Financial Years 2018-19 and 2019-20.

 

 

The scheme envisages to compensate the Central Government share of Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) and Integrated Goods and Service Tax (IGST) on purchase of raw items such as ghee, edible oil, atta/maida/rava/flour, rice pulses, sugar, burra/jiggery etc. which go into preparation of Food/Prasad/Langar/Bhandara offered free of cost by religious institutions.

 

The objectives of the scheme are to lessen the financial burden of such Charitable Religious Institutions who provide Food/Prasad/Langar/Bhandara free of cost without any discrimination against Public/Devotees.

 

 

 

12. India’s First Advanced DNA Forensic Lab in Chandigarh was laid by Foundation:

 

Mrs. Maneka Sanjay Gandhi, Hon’ble Minister for Women and Child Development laid the foundation of Sakshi Suraksha Advanced DNA Forensic Laboratory in the campus of Central Forensic Science Lab, Chandigarh.

 

 

The Minister said in an event that forensic analysis plays a critical role in criminal investigation and the Advanced Lab will contribute to address the gap in forensic DNA analysis of pending sexual assault cases in the country.

 

 

13. Charminar adopted by the NTPC under Swachh Iconic Places Project:

 

The Iconic Charminar has been adopted by the NTPC under Swachh Iconic Places Project of India.

 

 

This is a part of a special drive under the Centre’s Swachh Bharat Mission.

 

A memorandum of understanding for the implementation of development and beautification works under the Charminar Pedestrianization Project in Hyderabad has signed between the NTPC and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.

 

 

14. A two-day conference of Governors and Lt. Governors at Rashtrapati Bhawan:

 

A two-day Conference of Governors and Lt. Governors will be presided over by the Mr. Ramnath Kovind, The President of India on 4th and 5th June 2018, at Rashtrapati Bhawan.

 

 

It will be the second Conference to be presided over by President Kovind and 49th such Conference to be held in Rashtrapati Bhavan.

 

The first Conference of Governors was held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in 1949 which was presided over by Shri C. Rajagopalachari, then the Governor General of India.

 

The agenda of this conference is to discuss important thematic issues in various sessions.

 

 

 

15. NMGC undertaken cleanliness drive at Kalindi Kunj Ghat in Delhi:

 

A cleanliness drive was organized by the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) in association with Yes Bank at Kalindi Kunj Ghat on river Yamuna in Delhi, in the run up to the World Environment Day 2018.

 

 

The focus remained on freeing the ghat from plastic waste along with other solid waste during the cleanliness drive.

 

This is the third time in the past two months NMCG has organized a Swachhta drive at Kalindi Kunj Ghat.

1. Netherlands joined Solar Alliance:

 

The Netherland has joined the International Solar Alliance as the 64th signatory member.

 

 

The joint statement issued hailed the Netherlands as India’s “Gateway to Europe”.

 

The Netherland was welcomed by India as the Partner Country for the TechSummit in 2019.

 

 

 

2. 2nd IT Corridor launched by India in China:

 

The second IT Corridor of India has been launched in China to cash in on the burgeoning Chinese software market.

 

 

The National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) has established one more Digital Collaborative Opportunities Plaza (SIDCOP) platform in China in an effort to provide market access to Indian IT firms in the huge Chinese market.

 

 

 

3. Indo-Dutch Ganga Forum inaugurated by Prime Minister of Netherlands:

 

The Indo-Dutch Ganga Forum was inaugurated by Mr. Mark Rutte, the Prime Minister of Netherlands to take forward the MOU signed between the Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Government of India and the Ministry of Infrastructure & Environment of the Netherlands in June last year.

 

 

The inauguration of the Indo-Dutch Ganga Forum was followed by a technical session on “Innovative Financing Models for Indo-Dutch PPP Projects” during which a detailed discussion on Hybrid Annuity based PPP mode took place.

 

 

 

4. First Global Wind Summit 2018 will hold in Hamburg:

 

The first edition of Global Wind Summit will be held in Hamburg from 25th to 28th September 2018.

 

 

It is expected that about 100 countries’ speakers will take part in this event including India, China, The US, Spain and Denmark.

 

This is the largest and most important conference of the wind industry worldwide.

 

 

 

5. Colombo joined NATO as a global partner:

 

Colombo has joined North Atlantic Treaty Organization as global partner.

 

 

After this partnership, Colombia has to take part in active military actions of NATO, but it will not necessary.

 

It will cooperate on global security areas like cyber and maritime security, terrorism and links to organized crime.

 

 

 

6. International Conference on the TRIPS CBD Linkage will be held on 7th-8th June 2018 in Geneva:

 

India has taken the lead in seeking to revive WTO discussions on issues related to preventing theft of traditional knowledge.

 

 

An International Conference on TRIPS- CBD Linkage is organized by the Government of India, along with the Centre for WTO Studies, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade and the South Centre (an inter-governmental organization based in Geneva) on 7th – 8th June 2018 in Geneva.

 

Brazil and South Africa are some of the other countries that have joined hands with India on this crucial initiative.

 

 

 

7. India’s childhood index global ranking improved:

 

India has been taken place on 113th position in the list of 175 countries in “End of Childhood Index 2018” indexed by global child rights group, Save the Children.

 

 

India increased the overall score in 2018 by 14 points from 754 in 2017 to 768 on a scale of 1000.

 

 

8. Narendra Modi Addressed Shangri-La Dialogue:

 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi became the first Indian PM to deliver the keynote speech at the Shangri-La Dialogue on 1st June 2018, when he addressed the gathering in Singapore- the last stop of his three-nation tour.

 

 

The Prime Minister also addressed the Indian diaspora earlier at a Business and Community Event at Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre.

 

Modi also met his Singaporean counterpart Lee Hsien Loong and discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral ties.

 

 

 

9. US Pacific Command renamed as US Indo-Pacific Command:

 

The Pacific Command which is the oldest and largest military command of the United States has renamed as US Indo-Pacific Command, in a largely symbolic move to signal India’s importance to the US military.

 

 

Henceforth, the storied US Pacific Command, or PACOM, which was formed after World War II, will be known as the US Indo-Pacific Command.

 

 

 

10. IISc Bangalore is back in world top university list:

 

Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore has taken place back in the list of top 100 universities in the World Reputation Rankings 2018.

 

It is ranked at the 91 in the list and is the only Indian university to have made it to the prestigious list.

Harvard has topped that list.

 

 

 

 

 

MMOUsemorandum of Understanding (MoU) | Get the Best Information Out of Top Agreements

 

 

1. India signed Loan Agreement with the World Bank for USD 21.7 Million for Rajasthan:

 

Mr. Sameer Kumar Khare, Joint Secretary (FB and ADB), Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance on behalf of the Government of India signed a loan agreement with Mr. Hisham Abdo, Acting Country Director, World Bank (India) on behalf of the World Bank for IBRD Credit of USD 21.7 Million for the Strengthening of Public Financial Management in Rajasthan Project.

 

The Secretary, Finance (Budget) on behalf of the Government of Rajasthan signed an Implementing Entity Agreement with the Acting Country Director (India) on behalf of the World Bank.

 

The Project size is approximately USD 31 million, of which USD 21.7 million will be financed by the World Bank, and the remaining amount will be funded-out of the State Budget. The Project duration is 5 years.

 

The objective of this project is to contribute to improved Budget execution, enhanced accountability and greater efficiency in Revenue Administration in Rajasthan.

 

 

 

2. Ministry of WCD signed an MOU with Government of Uttar Pradesh:

 

An MOU has been signed by the Ministry of Women and Child and Development, Government of India for management of Home of Widows at Sunrakh Bangar, Vrindavan with the Department of Women and Child Development, Government of Uttar Pradesh.

 

 

This shelter home for widows with a capacity of 1000 inmates has been constructed by the Ministry of Women and Child Development.

 

The MoU shall be in force for a period of 2 years which may be renewed for further period on the satisfactory running of the Home

 

 

 

3. India and World Bank Signed a loan agreement of $500 Million for Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana:

 

The Government of India signed a loan agreement of $500 million with the World Bank to provide additional financing for the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) Rural Roads Project, implemented by Ministry of Rural Development, Govt. of India, which will build 7,000 km of climate resilient roads, out of which 3,500 km will be constructed using green technologies.

 

 

PMGSY has been supported by the World Bank since its inception in 2004.

 

So far it has invested over $1.8 billion in loans and credits mostly in the economically weaker and hill states across North India – Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Meghalaya, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh.

 

It has built and improved about 35,000 km of rural roads and benefited about eight million people with access to all-weather roads.

 

 

 

4. MOU was signed by the Environment Ministry, Teri to set up a Resource Efficiency Cell:

 

A Memorandum of Understanding to set up a resource efficiency cell has been entered in the Ministry by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) in the run up to World Environment Day.

 

 

The main objectives of the Cell are to provide a platform for mainstream resource efficiency in public policy.

 

At the event hosted by TERI, the European Union and MoEFCC also signed a Joint Declaration of Intent (JDI) to support the implementation of the EU Resource Efficiency Initiative (EU-REI) Project in India.

1. Ramdev’s Patanjali tied up with BSNL:

 

After becoming India’s most trusted Fast-Moving Consumer Goods brand, Ramdev’s Patanjali has tied up with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited.

 

 

The Swadeshi Samriddhi SIM cards were launched by Baba Ramdev, in alliances with BSNL.

 

Initially, only the employees and office bearers of Patanjali will be able to avail the benefits of the SIM card.

 

After its full-fledged launch, people will get discount of 10 per cent on Patanjali products with this card

 

 

 

2. Indian economy grew at 7.7 pc in Q4:

 

In Q4 i.e. January-March 2018, Indian economy grew 7.7 percent. It is the biggest expansion in seven quarters, on account of robust performance in manufacturing, construction and service sectors as well as good farm output.

 

 

The economic growth was slow to 6.7 percent in 2017-18 as compared to 7.1 percent in 2016-17.

 

Central Statistics Office (CSO) released that data.

The technology of nozzle less booster has been successfully demonstrated in the mission for the first time in the country.
