Hey Folks! The GATE 2016 notification is out now.
Indian Institute of Science will be conducting GATE 2016 on 30th and 31st January and 6th and 7th February. The candidates wishing to appear in the exam may apply online till 1st Oct 2015.
GATE is expanded as Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. The exam is conducted at national level to test the comprehensive understanding of the candidates in various undergraduate subjects in Engineering/Technology/Architecture and post-graduate level subjects in Science.
The Indian Institute of Science and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs at Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee) jointly administer the conduct of GATE.
Why to take GATE?
The GATE qualification of a candidate reflects their performance in all those subjects which they have studied during their graduation phase.
The GATE score card is mainly used for admissions to IIT’s post-graduate programs (e.g., M. E., M. Tech and direct Ph.D.). This is also used by some Public and Private Sector Employers for recruitment on Group-A level Posts.
The candidates aspiring GATE must have completed B-Tech/B.E./M-Tech/B.Sc./Post Graduation in B.Sc. with at least 60% marks.
Scheme of Exam
1. Exam Type – ONLINE Computer Based Test
2. Time Duration – 3 hours
3. Questions – 65
4. Total Marks – 100
5. Questions Types – Multiple choice questions (MCQ) and numerical answer type (NAT) questions.
For 1-mark multiple-choice questions, 1/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer. Likewise, for 2-mark multiple-choice questions, 2/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer.
*There is NO negative marking for numerical answer type questions.
How to Apply?
The entire process of GATE 2016 will be administered online only. The filling up of application form, uploading required documents, fee payments and getting admit cards will be online. The candidates are ‘not required’ to send hardcopy of any document to official address.
