National:

1. The festival of Losar has begun in Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir to mark the beginning of New Year in this Himalayan region.

10 day long festival began with illumination of religious and residential places and by visiting monasteries for prayer.

Losar is Tibetan word for ‘new year’ and this festival is an important social and religious celebration in Ladakh.

Sports:

1. Japanese shuttlers Kento Momota and Nozomi Okuhara won Men’s singles and Women’s singles title respectively at the BWF World Super series finals held at the Hamdan Sports Complex, Dubai.

2. Vijay Kumar won the centre fire pistol gold in the 59th National shooting championship at the Dr. Karni Singh Range in Tughlakabad in New Delhi. The 15 day event began on 1 December 2015.

3. Organizing committee of 12th South Asian Games (OC-SAG) unveiled mascot of the games and logo at ITA Cultural Center Machkhowa in Guwahati, Assam.

Awards & Recognition:

1. Indian-origin writer Jamaludeen Mohamed Sali from Singapore has been awarded prestigious 2015 South East Asia Write Award.

2. Legendary actor Dilip Kumar has been conferred with the prestigious Padma Vibhushan, country’s second highest civilian award.

Appointments:

1. Union Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has appointed senior IPS officer Ahmad Javed as India’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia.

Memorandum of Understanding (MoU):

1. India and Japan have inked fourteen agreements in various fields to enhance bilateral co-operation between both countries.

These agreements were signed during ninth annual Indo-Japan summit talks held in New Delhi.

Agreement in transfer of Defence Equipment and Technology Cooperation

Agreement on security measures for the protection of classified military information

Agreement on Amendment Protocol of Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement

MoC on Technological Cooperation in Rail Sector

MoU on technological cooperation on Rail safety

MoC on Medical Products Regulation Dialogue and Cooperation Framework

MoC in the field of forests.

2. The Union Government signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and documentation for establishing three Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIITs) at Ranchi, Nagpur and Pune.

Science & Technology:

1. Typhoon Melor struck the Philippines.

The typhoon was ranked as a Category 3 storm by the US military’s Joint Typhoon Warning Center which is located at Pearl Harbour in Hawaii.

The storm is expected to trigger flooding, landslides and 4 meter storm surges in the coastal region.

Death:

1. Renowned economist, agriculturist, prolific journalist and stalwart farmer leader Sharad Joshi passed away in Pune. He was 80.
