1. Defending champion Carolina Marin Martin of Spain has won the prestigious World Badminton Championship 2015 in women’s single category.

2. India’s ace shuttler Saina Nehwal became the first Indian to win silver in the World Badminton Championship.

The President also awarded 20 Mention-in-Dispatches to Army & Para Military personnel for their significant contributions in different military operations which include three for ‘Operation Meghdoot’, 12 for ‘Operation Rakshak’, one for ‘Operation Orchid’, one for ‘Operation Hifazat’ and three for ‘Operation Rhino’.

Mergers & Acquisition:

1. Birla Corporation has signed an agreement with French-based Lafarge Group to acquire its Jojobera unit in Jharhkand and Sonadih in Chattisgarh for sum of INR 5000 crore.

2. World’s largest bicycle manufacturer Hero Cycles acquired majority stake in UK-based Avocet Sports for an undisclosed amount.

3. Mumbai based Real estate listing portal Housing.com has acquired Bengaluru-based customer relationship management software company HomeBuy360.

This deal will help Housing.com to strive for efficiency in the Indian real estate sector and to bring down their sales and operating costs.

Appointments:

1. Union Government appointed private sector professionals, namely PS Jayakumar and Rakesh Sharma, as Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Bank of Baroda (BoB) and Canara Bank, respectively.

Economics:

1. HDFC to sell its 9 percent stake in HDFC life to JV partner Standard Life for INR 1700 Crore.

Prior this agreement HDFC had 70.65 per cent stake while Standard life had 26 per cent stakes which will be change to 61.65 per cent and 35 per cent respectively.

2. India and Bangladesh have inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for full cooperation to tackle the menace of fake Indian currency notes (FICN) smuggling.

The MoU was signed at a maiden meeting of the Joint Task Force on Fake Currency Notes (JTFFC) in Dhaka.

3. Hyderabad based renewable energy company Greenko has agreed to sell its India assets to Singapore based sovereign wealth fund company GIC for about 1,600 crore Rupees.

Science & Technology:

1. Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has decided to establish a pan-India National fingerprint database to aid in the speedy identification of criminals and investigation of crimes across the country.

2. Prof. Mustansir Barma won the prestigious Gujar Mal Modi Award for Innovative Science and Technology for the year 2015.
