National – Across the India:


1. The Indian Institute of Sciences (IISc), Bangaluru was adjudged as the best Indian university in the first National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF).

NIRF Survey was the first of its kind of indigenous ranking framework for higher education institutions in the country.

It was launched by the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development in September 2015.


2. World’s first White Tiger Safari was inaugurated at Mukundpur in Satna district of Madhya Pradesh.

It was inaugurated and opened to public by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

The first of its kind safari is situated adjacent to the Mukundpur Zoological Park.

It is spread over an area of 25 hectares and has been built at cost of 50 crore rupees.


International – Across the Globe:


1. The world’s first public dengue vaccination programme was launched in the Philippines with a French drug Dengvaxia (world’s 1st dengue fever vaccine) to combat mosquito-borne disease.

Several hundred children aged between 9 and 10 were vaccinated with the injections in front of government health workers at a public school in eastern Manila.

Mexico was first country in the world to approve first-ever Dengvaxia Dengue fever vaccine for the public use and Philippines was the first county in Asia to allow it.


Appointments & Resignations:


1. Tran Dai Quang has sworn in as the ninth President of Vietnam after he was elected by country’s National Assembly.

He succeeds Truong Tan Sang and shall have term of five years.

He also served as Minister of Public Security of the country from 2011 to 2016.


2. Mehbooba Mufti Sayeed took oath as the first woman Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, bringing to an end the three-month Governor’s Rule in the state.

She was administered oath to the office by Governor NN Vohra at Raj Bhawan in the winter capital city of Jammu.

She succeeds her father Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in the role who had died in January 2016.

She is also second Muslim woman to become the Chief Minister of a state in India after Syeda Anwara Taimur who had served as the first Muslim woman CM of Assam from 1980 to 1981.


Memorandum of Understanding (MoU):


1. India and Saudi Arabia have singed five agreements to boost the bilateral cooperation between the two nations.

The agreements were signed during the two day official visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Saudi Arabia in Riyadh.

These five agreements are:

Agreement on Labour Co-operation

Technical Cooperation Program

Executive Program for Cooperation in the Field of Handicrafts

MoU in the Exchange of Intelligence related to Money Laundering, Terrorism Financing and Related Crimes

Framework for Investment Promotion Cooperation




1. Gato Barbieri, renowned Latin jazz saxophonist Leandro passed away in New York, US due to pneumonia. He was 83.

He had won a Grammy Award for best instrumental composition for his music for Last Tango In Paris in 1973.

He had also won a Latin Grammy lifetime achievement award for his career in 2015.
