What is the Difference Between NATA & JEE Mains Paper 2?


For admission in 5-years architecture courses, there are two predominant entrance exams in India – JEE Mains Paper 2 & NATA (National Aptitude Test for Architecture).

JEE Mains Paper 2 Eligibility Criteria 2019



Eligibility Criteria for JEE Mains Paper 2 & Paper 1 is same. The qualification criteria to appear in the JEE Mains exam 2019 is:



12th Class/Equivalent Exam Passed Out Candidates in the year 2017 or 2018. Candidate must have passed the exam in desired 5 subjects including Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics as compulsory subjects.


12th Class/Equivalent Exam Appearing Candidates in 2019.


 As per the latest notification, the candidates must have passed 10+2 with 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and also 50% marks in aggregate their CBSE Class 12th Result 2019.


Diploma Holders who have already passed or are in their final year of pursuing Degree.

As the JEE Paper 2 was in Offline and Online mode, the exam was conducted on 8th January in two shifts (9.30 am to 12.30 pm) & (2.30 to 5.30 pm).For nearly 1.8 lakh candidates the JEE Main Paper 2 was conducted at 390 exam centers across country and at 6 abroad exam centers.







JEE Mains paper 2 Exam Pattern 2019



JEE Mains Paper consists of two papers – paper 1 & 2. Both the papers have a different paper pattern.


Paper 1 has three subjects namely: Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. There are overall 90 questions. Exam duration is 3 hours.


Paper 2 has three sections called – Mathematics, Aptitude, and Drawing test. Exam duration for paper 2 is 3 hours. There are total 83 questions in the paper.

JEE Mains Paper 2 Syllabus 2019 for B.Arch:

JEE Mains Paper 2 Analysis 2019



Paper 2 contains 3 parts. Mathematics, Aptitude Test, and Drawing Test. Total of 83 questions were asked in the JEE Main 2019 Paper 2, which carried 390 marks.


As per the JEE students reviews, the Aptitude section was manageable while the mathematics section was a bit lengthy.This year 3 Questions were asked in the Drawing section.


Each correct answer will give 4 marks and ¼ mark for that question will be deducted for each incorrect answer.


There were 3 drawing questions containing total 70 marks.



Mathematics section


Mathematics section was the lengthiest among all the three sections. The Standard of paper was high. While for those who know the tricks, questions were not difficult for them. The questions were completely from the Syllabus.


The Mathematics was the lengthiest and of Moderate Difficulty level amongst all the three sections. Most of the Questions in this section were repeated from the last Year Question Papers. The Questions asked were mostly Class 11th Level. The weightage ratio of the questions from class 11th and 12th was 60:40.



Aptitude Section


The exam pattern in Aptitude was same as previous year. The Questions were tricky, some questions like counting surfaces or counting shapes were removed and in place of these questions, some more easy questions were added. The GK part of aptitude was manageable that consists of overall 15 questions.


This section consists of 50 questions carrying 4 marks each. The Aptitude section was the easiest among all as per the student’s reactions.


Overall, the Questions were asked from each topic in Aptitude Section.The Questions from the Abbreviations, 3D Images, Colors and buildings were asked in the Question paper.



Drawing Section


Drawing section of the JEE Main Paper 2 was length and difficult. The Drawing section consists of 3 Questions carrying a total of 70 marks. First question of this section was of 30 marks while other two questions were carrying weightage of 20 marks each.



Among all the three questions, the first question was having total three options. First option was to design the curtain of a small girl’s room. In second option the students were asked to sketch of their favorite film actor and the third option was to sketch the scene of people sitting around a bonfire.


Second Question was quite complicated a square design was given and the students had to draw the design by drawing the replica to double its size.


In last Question of Drawing section, students had to draw a square with random designs using curved lines and color. The Questions were majorly asked from this section




How to Prepare for Paper 2 in JEE Mains 2019 – Tips to Get Better Marks in Aptitude & Drawing Test



There are approximately 850 B. Arch/ B. Planning seats in various NITs/ Architecture institutes that accept JEE Main Scorecard.     My daughter got 161 marks out of 320 (from answer key) of JEE Paper 2 and expecting minimum of 40-45 marks in Drawing, totaling to 200-205 marks. We have OBC with us. Is there any way that she will get admission into any of the JEE sponsored Institutes – NITs/CFTIs etc. What rank she will get?
