Jhumpa Lahiri who is an Indian-American author was awarded the DSC Prize for Literature for her fiction book “The Lowland” on 22nd Jan, 2015.

On behalf of Jhumpa Lahiri, Mr. Caroline Newbury accepted the award from Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Vijay Shesadri.

The winner is announced at the Jaipur Literature Festival. The winner receives INR 2,800,000 (about US$50,000).

About Jhumpa Lahiri

An Indian-American author Jhumpa Lahiri was born on 11th July, 1967. Jhumpa belongs to an indian family which moved to London. She won many prizes in her entire life. Now she is in limelight because of her novel “The Lowland”.

Story of “The Lawland”

It is about two brothers who come of age in the 1950s and 60s in the city of Calcutta. When one of the brothers becomes involved in the Naxalite movement in the late 1960s, their paths diverge and one of them goes to the United States and the other one stays behind to take part in the movement. The book is about the consequences of each of their choices.
