Saudi King Shah Abdullah dies, Brother Salman Crowned in as the New King



Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah died on Friday 23rd Jan, 2015 at 1 am. Now his younger brother Salman will take over his position of King.

Saudi Arab is the world’s top oil exporter and birthplace of Islam.

King Salman has named his half-brother Muqrin as his crown prince and heir.

“His Highness Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and all members of the family and the nation mourn the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, who passed away at exactly 1 am this morning,” said the statement.

About King Abdullah

Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud was born in 1923. He was ruling over Saudi Arabia as king since 2006.

Abdullah played a guiding role in Saudi Arabia’s support for Egypt’s government after the military intervened in 2012, and drove his country’s support for Syria’s rebellion against President Bashar al-Assad.

The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee has condoled the passing away of His Majesty King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud, King of Saudi Arabia and Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques.

The President has tweeted-

“Heartfelt condolences to the Government, Royal family and people of Saudi Arabia over the sad demise of King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia.

In his passing away, Saudi Arabia had lost a beloved leader, India a close friend and the world, an elder statesman.

King Abdullah had genuine warmth and affection for India and our people. He was personally committed to improving bilateral ties with India.”
