UGC-NET
NET eligibility is no longer compulsoryAccording to UGC rules, clearing the National Eligibility Test (NET) was mandatory to become eligible for appointment as assistant professors in Indian colleges and universities.

But, now Ministry of Human Resource Development made an opinion, and following that opinion University Grant Commission (UGC) amended its regulation on faculty recruitment and relaxed the minimum eligibility conditions for appointment of assistant professors.

It was announced that scholars who completed a PhD or registered for one before 2009 would be eligible for lectureship without clearing the NET. The decision will help to create larger opportunities in the field of teaching.

The students who have a postgraduate degree or an MPhil had to clear the NET/SET (State-Level Eligibility Test) to be eligible to apply for lectureship in Indian colleges or universities, in order to get appointed as teachers in colleges and universities. But the UGC’s decision to declare NET exam inessential would come as a relief to thousands of students having PG or MPhil.
