World’s Number 1 Ace Shuttler, Saina Nehwal booked her name in Indian Sports History by becoming the First Indian to reach to the finals of the World Badminton Championships.
This is the first time, when an Indian badminton player reached to the finals and also bagged a silver medal in World Badminton Championships 2015.
Saina was outclassed after playing really well against the World No. 1 Carolina Marin. The Indian lost by 16-21, 19-21.
Here are more achievements which Indian Shuttlers have achieved in Badminton Competitions-
Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponappa clinched a bronze in Women’s Doubles at the 2011 edition of World Championships.
PV Sindhu clinched the bronze twice in 2013 and 2014.
And now this is the fifth medal at the World Championships bagged by Saina Nehwal.
Legendary shuttler Prakash Padukone was the first Indian to win a bronze at the 1983 edition.

About Saina Nehwal
Saina was born on 17th March, 1990 in Hisar. She completed her first few years of schooling at Campus School CCS HAU, Hisar and later, her family shifted to Hyderabad.
She was initially coached by S. M. Arif a Dronacharya Award winner, and then by Pullela Gopichand till 2014 September.
Saina, who plays for Hyderabad Hotshots in the Indian Badminton League is currently being coached by the former Indian badminton champion and national coach P. Kulkarni.

Saina Nehwal is the first Indian women to be ranked as number one in Badminton World Federation in Women’s Singles category.
She achieved the Bronze medal at the London Olympics 2014.
Nehwal was the first Indian to win the World Junior Badminton Championship and the first Indian to win a Super Series tournament and Indonesian Open in 2009.
The 25-year-old had reached the finals of the All England Open Badminton on March7, 2015.
She has won Singapore Open super series in June 2010, Hong Kong super series in December 2010, and Indonesian championship in June 2012.
Nehwal has been conferred with Arjuna Award in 2009, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna in 2009-2010 and Padma Shri award in 2010.
