22nd Jan, 2015: One of the biggest telecom companies, Vodafone appointed its first Indian CEO, Sunil Sood.

Mr. Marten Pieters who has been the UK’s telecom giant’s Chief Executive since February 2009 was the previous CEO of Vodafone, now he has replaced by Mr. Sood.

About Vodafone

Vodafone is world’s 2nd largest mobile telecommunication company. Vodafone Group is a British multinational telecommunications company headquartered in London and with its registered office in Newbury, Berkshire.

As per the market survey on subscribers and 2013 revenues, Vodafone stands on 2nd position.  Vodafone had 434 million subscribers as of 31st Mar, 2014.

It operates networks in 21 countries and has partner networks in over 40 additional countries.

Its Vodafone Global Enterprise division provides telecommunications and IT services to corporate clients in over 65 countries.

About Sunil Sood

Sunil Sood who is 53, has been the Chief Operating Officer of Vodafone, will join CEO Position from 1st April, 2015.

Mr. Sood joined Vodafone India’s predecessor business, Hutch, in 2000 and has held roles leading the company’s operations in Gujarat, Kolkata and Chennai.

He had previously worked for Pepsi also.
