During your preparation, it is important that you must learn about the basic components of a computer system. Questions are generally asked from the very minute parts of the computer system to the complex parts. Banks consider computer awareness as an essential skill, and therefore this section is included in almost all the bank exams. Every candidate aspiring to secure a bank job need to incorporate fundamental computer knowledge in his/her bank exam preparation.
Now let us get to know the basic parts of a whole computer system. The whole computer system is completely based upon two things, they are:
Hardware: A Physical component of the computer system is called hardware. Keyboard, monitor, mouse, printers etc. are categorized as hardware.
Software: Computer programs and instructions that direct computers to perform programs.
Hardware Components
Monitor: It is an electronic visual display for a computer.
Motherboard: A motherboard is also known as the logic board, planner board and baseboard. It is the main printed board, and it allows communication between many of the crucial electronic components of the system.
CPU: Central processing unit mainly executes a sequence of stored programs in a computer.
RAM: Random Access Memory is the temporary storage of memory. All the data and programs required for running a process are stored here, until the process is over. More RAM storage space can make the computer work faster.
Expansion Cards: expansion cards are printed circuit boards which can be inserted into systems.
Optical Disk Drive: It is a disk drive that uses laser light or electromagnetic waves within or near the visible light spectrum as part of the process of reading or writing data to or from optical discs.
Hard Disk Drive: It is a type of disk that stores a large amount of data on an electromagnetically charged surface or set of surfaces. It is a non-volatile memory that stores data even when the power is off.
Basic Input Output System: BIOS prepares the software programs to load, execute and control the computer.
Power Supply: It supplies electrical energy to an output load or group of loads.
Visual Display Controller: It converts a logical representation of visual information into signals that can be used as input for a display medium.
Computer Bus: It is used to transfer data or power between computer components inside a computer or between computers.
Software Components
Virus Scanner: It’s a type of scanner is the scanner which is used to scan the virus from a security point of view of a computer.
Spreadsheet: Spreadsheets are an interactive application for managing and analysing data in tabular form.
Programming Language: This is the type of software which is used by computer programmers to develop an operating system and applications.
Operating System: Operating system is system software that manages computer resources and provides common services for a computer.
Application Software: Popular example of application software are Microsoft office suite which includes Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Word Processor: Combining the keyboard text-entry and printing functions of an electric typewriter, with a recording unit, either tape or floppy disk (as used by the Wang machine) with a simply dedicated computer processor for the editing of text.
