UGC NET Eligibility Criteria 2026

To appear for the 2026 examination, candidates must fulfill eligibility requirements. UGC NET Eligibility is divided into three factor, i.e.,e Educational Qualifications, Age Limit Criteria, and Nationality. Below, youcan check the eligibility criteria in detail:–
Education Qualification:–
General / Unreserved / General-EWS: Candidates must have secured at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in their Master's degree or equivalent examination from a university recognized by the UGC.
Reserved Categories: SC, ST, OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), PwD, and Third Gender candidates require a minimum of 50% marks (without rounding off) in their Master's degree.
Final Year Candidates: Candidates appearing in or awaiting results for their final year Master's examination can apply provisionally. They must complete their degree with the required percentage within two years of the result declaration.
Ph.D. Degree Holders: Candidates who obtained their Master's degree on or before September 19, 1991, are eligible with 50% aggregate marks.
2. 4-Year Undergraduate Degree Holders
Candidates holding a 4-year Bachelor's degree are eligible to apply under the following conditions:

Marks Requirement: Must have an aggregate of at least 75% marks or an equivalent grade. A 5% relaxation is offered to SC, ST, OBC (NCL), PwD, and EWS candidates.

Application Scope: Eligible only for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Ph.D. admissions. They cannot apply for Assistant Professor positions until they complete their Master's degree
Age Limit:–
For JRF: The maximum age limit is 30 years (relaxation of up to 5 years for reserved categories).
For Assistant Professor or Lecturership:- There is no upper age limit in applying for the Assistant Professor Post.

UGC NET City Intimation Slip 2026 – Know Your Exam City Before Admit Card!
The City Intimation Slip of UGC NET is an essential document released by the NTA before the admit card. It informs you about your exam city, helping you plan your travel and stay in advance. However, it is not the admit card and does not grant entry to the exam hall.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced the results and subject-wise cut-off marks for the UGC NET December 2025 session on February 4, 2026.
The examination was successfully administered in a computer-based format from December 31, 2025, to January 7, 2026. Candidates can view and download their scorecards and e-certificates from the official website.

Conducting the National Eligibility Test and providing the award of certificates and JRF to the qualified candidates is the responsibility of NTA (previously, the University Grants Commission was responsible for releasing the certificate).
