CSIR NET stands for Council of Scientific & Industrial Research – National Eligibility Test. It is a national-level exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for the candidates who want to choose Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) or Lectureship (LS) as their career.

NTA CSIR UGC NET  is conducted in 5 subjects: Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Earth Sciences, and Mathematical Sciences, twice a year.

Candidates who qualify for CSIR NET JRF are eligible to become lecturers in the Science & Technology subjects only.

NTA started conducting this exam from December 2019 onwards. Earlier it was used to be conducted by the CSIR.

NTA CSIR NET 2021 Eligibility Criteria


To appear for the exam, candidates are required to prove their eligibility, such as educational qualification and age limit.

Following is the brief of these criteria:

Educational Qualification - Aspirants should have a masters' degree with 55% aggregate marks or be enrolled for post-graduation. 

Age Limit - If you want to apply for CSIR UGC NET JRF, then your age must not be more than 28 years, but there is no age limit to appear for Assistant Professor.

NTA has provided some relaxation to the candidates in the upper age limit and educational qualification as per their categories.

Ques. 7 - Can I take CSIR NET 2021 Exam in two different subjects?

Ans - No, you cannot apply for this exam in two different subjects. You can appear for one subject only.



Ques. 8 - How long will the certificate of CSIR NET 2020 be valid? 

Ans - The certificate for Assistant Professor does not have any validity, i.e. the certificate is valid for a lifetime. 
But the certificate for Junior Research Fellowship is valid for 2 years from the date of the issue. 



Ques. 9 - When CSIR NET Exam Result will be declared? 

Ans - As per the official notification, CSIR NET Result 2020 has been declared on 5th February 2021. 



Ques. 10 - How many candidates register for the NTA CSIR NET Exam each year?

Ans – Every year, around 2 lakhs candidates register for this exam. 



Ques. 11 - Will I be able to change my CSIR NET 2021 Exam Centre?

Ans - No, you cannot change your exam centre once it has been allotted by the NTA.



Ques. 12 - Are the questions repeated in CSIR NET Exam? 

Ans - There is very little chance that the questions will be repeated in the exam. But mostly, questions are based on the same pattern as asked in previous exams.



Ques. 13 – What is CSIR NET and UGC NET? What is the difference between these two exams? 

Ans – Both the exams are national-level examinations conducted for JRF and Lecturer/Assistant Professor. But CSIR NET Exam is conducted for Science stream candidates, and the UGC NET is conducted for the Language and subjects that come under Humanities.
