GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) is a national level exam which is conducted by IISc and 7 IITs to test the students’ knowledge about the subject or stream in which they have pursued graduation.

The exam conducting bodies or institutes have prescribed some conditions for the students who wish to appear in the GATE Exam.

Nationality Required to Appear in GATE Exam

 

Students with Indian citizenship are eligible to appear in GATE Exam.

Students belonging to Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Singapore and United Arab Emirates are also eligible to appear in GATE Exam.

 

GATE Age Limit for Upcoming Exam

 

There is no need to worry about the GATE exam age limit as there is no restriction due to age norms to appear in this exam.

Students can appear in this exam as many times as they want.

 

GATE Qualification Required to Appear in Exam

 

Qualifying degree matters a lot to confirm your eligibility for GATE Exam.

Below we have provided the complete list of qualifying degrees that are required to apply for GATE exam.

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Technology and those students who are in the final year of such programme

Should be pursuing in the final year or completed graduation or course.

B.Arch (Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture) – Five Years

Should be pursuing in the final year or completed.

Bachelor’s degree in Science (Post-Diploma/ 4 years after 10+2)

Should be in the final year or already completed

Master’s degree in any stream of Science or equivalent

Pursuing in the final year or a complete master’s degree

Post B.Sc. Integrated master’s degree programs in Engineering / Technology (Four years)

Should be pursuing in the 2nd, 3rd or 4th year or completed the program

2021

Int. master’s degree or dual degree program in Eng./Tech. (Five Years)

In the 4th or higher year of such programmes

Int. M.Sc. or BS/MS Program (five years)

Presently appearing in the final year or such programs

Professional Courses Equivalent to B.E/B.Tech/B.Arch of professional societies, recognised by UPSC/ AICTE/ MHRD

Those who have completed section A or AMIE or equivalent courses.

GATE Exam Eligibility Criteria for International Students

 

International students (Ethiopia, Nepal, Bangladesh, Singapore, Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates) who seek for the admission in various IITs and IISc for M.Tech or PhD courses can also apply for GATE Exam.

Such students need to complete bachelor’s degree in Engineering or postgraduation in a relevant science subject.

Students who are pursuing in the final year of the degree can also apply for GATE Exam.

 

 

Important note –

Candidates who possess certification from any of the professional societies/institutions (some of them are mentioned below) must have to ensure that all those examinations must be conducted by MHRD/AICTE as equivalent to B.E/B.Tech/B.Arch.

Candidates having backlog and wants to appear in GATE Exam, should submit a copy of any of the mark sheets of the final year or should have obtained a declaration from Principal to upload it while filling up the GATE Application Form.
