dear student PhD is necessary for the post of asst professor if u have not cleared NET-JRF. On the basis of NET or PhD or both u r eligible to apply for assit professor. hope my questions answers ur queries.

UGC want to maintain quality at higher education because, it symbolizes the importance of the program and its need. Ph.D. holders will have more importance for recruitment in upcoming years. So, UGC set the rule that from 1 of July 2021 Ph.D. is compulsory for direct recruitment for the post of Assistant Professor or and for teaching at university or college level. Until then till 30 June 2021 minimum eligibility criteria of master’s with NET or Ph.D. will continue. Following rules will states the importance of Ph.D. for Assistant Professor Number of Ph.D. holder affected from the minimum eligibility criteria of Master’s with NET or Ph.D. for Recruitment as an assistant professor which was introduced in 2009 so UGC introduced the rule that if you have registered in Ph.D. before 11th of July 2009, then you don’t need to fulfill the eligibility criteria but you have to follow some other condition. Ph.D. is mandatory for direct recruitment for the post of assistant professor in universities. Ph.D. is mandatory for promotion as an assistant professor in college after completing your 12th grade. One-month induction program has been mandatory for newly recruited Assistant Professor in colleges, universities or Higher Educational institutions. Also, you have to spend two hours to guide students for community development or extra-curricular activities. For direct recruitment a Ph.D. degree holder need to qualify their maters with 55% marks in particular subject opted for Ph.D.
I just want to know Can I apply for assistant professor in college initially If I cleared NET. or I need to do pHD then I can apply only.
