A male snail homozygous for dextral alleles is crossed with a female homozygous for sinistral alleles. All the F1 individuals showed sinistral phenotype. When F1 progeny snails were self fertilized all individual of F2 progeny had dextral coiling. This experiment demonstrated.

    This is a classical example of Genetic Maternal Effect where, the direction of coiling is determined not by that snail’s own genotype, but by the genotype of its mother.
