(a) option. In acoustic branch at the zone boundary only heavier atoms oscillate while in optical branch at zone boundary only lighter atoms oscillate i.e. if we assume it to consist of two sublattices consisting of masses m and M tgen at the zone boundary only one of the sublattice is oscillation in both the branches.
