    The history of the National Library began with the formation of the Calcutta Public Library in 1836. That was a non-governmental institution and was run on a proprietary basis.
    Connemara Public Library at Egmore in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, is one of the four National Depository Libraries which receive a copy of all books, newspapers and periodicals published in India. Established in 1890, the library is a repository of centuries-old publications, wherein lie some of the most respected works and collections in the country.
    The Central Library of Baroda was built in Year 1910-11. It was one of the first public libraries to be set up in India. It shares a unique resemblance to the World’s finest library, the prestigious Library of Congress, Washington, USA – both boast of a distinctive shelf-rack and glass flooring system that is disaster-proof, allow for as much natural daylight as possible and, most importantly, is extremely user and book-friendly.
    Delhi Public Library is a national depository library in the Indian state of Delhi. The library has 35 branches across the state. The Library was established on 27 October 1951 as a pilot project sponsored by UNESCO and the Government of India.
