Explanation - As we read poetry and engage with its enomorous beauty just a mere reading helps you understand the poem. In the same way when you read a tragic epic or any tragedy for that Matter the essence of tragedy is felt by the readers as it is mirrored in their minds. It is not mandatory for a dramatic performance in order for you to understand the element of Tragedy. Example - It the same emotion you feel while you read "Oedipus Rex" the play as of how you watch it. Reading a tragic piece helps you feel the terror of committing the action as well as feeling pity for the characters. Isn't it the same while you read a poem too ? Yes you are engrossed in a poem with the reading itself.
