    - Its quite obvious that Foucault is responding to Roland Barthes "Death of the Author" (1967) through this lecture "What is an Author" in 1969. - Foucault agrees that 'Author' is an unnatural, unhistorical phenomenon that has obtained a heroic status. He contradicts and complicated this status through this text. - It submits to the inevitability of this death. - Shows the relationship between writing and death. And also says that Modern Writing kills the Author linked with sacrifice. - Oeuvre is called the idea of work and Ecriture is the notion of writing. - An author's name is functional in relation to the texts he has created. - Four Major Characteristics of Author are: 1. Institutional Authorship 2. Historical Variations. 3. External Attribution 4. Multiple individualities. - The author occupies a Transdiscursive position and is the initiator of Discursive practices according to Foucault.
