    It totally depends on you. As the residue theoren is a consequence of Cauchy's integral formula you can solve any type of problem by both the methods. But when a simple function is given like (e^z)/(z-a) or (2z+3)/(Z-1) you need not to go for residue theorem.Because you have find the singularity first and then the residue. When the function is complex or to find the contour integration then the residue theorem is much easier.
