These lines are addressed to Nelly Dean by Catherine. The lines bring out Catherine's feeling about Edgar Linton that is changing from time to time. But her love for Heathcliff is evergreen and she feels that they are one together already. She ends the quote by stating "Nelly. I am Heathcliff!" denotes that.

There are two characters with the same name, The mother Catherine who loves Heathcliff but Marries Edgar and the daughter Catherine who is sometimes also called Cathy , who marries to Linton and Hareton.
