Most Famous Ph.D. Entrance Exam

CSIR UGC NET Exam
The National Testing Agency conducts the CSIR NET exam on a bi-yearly basis for those who want to make their career in Research and Lectureship field.
Candidates having or pursuing their Masters’ degree in Science Stream are only eligible to take the NTA CSIR NET exam.
To appear in this exam, aspirant must fulfill the required eligibility criteria which we have mentioned below –
Educational Criteria -
General/ OBC Category - Minimum 55% aggregate marks in Masters’ degree
SC/ST/PwD Category – Minimum 50% aggregate marks in Masters’ degree
Candidates who are enrolled in the post-graduation course can also apply for the exam.
Age Criteria –
There is no age limit for the post of Lectureship. The age limit criteria for the post of JRF is as follows:
General Category – 28 Years as on 1st July 2021.
OBC Category – 3 Years’ age relaxation
SC/ST/PwD/Female Candidates – 5 Years’ age relaxation
UGC NET Exam
The UGC NET Exam is a national level test organized by the NTA to determine the expertise of candidates to hold the position of Lecturers / Professors / Associates / Research Fellows at renowned universities in India.
Aspirants need to fulfill essential requirements to appear for the UGC NET exam.
Educational Criteria -
General Category - Minimum 55% aggregate marks in Masters’ degree from a UGC recognized institute.
OBC/SC/ST/PwD/Transgender Category – Minimum 50% aggregate marks
Candidates who are enrolled in the post-graduation course can also apply for the exam.
Age Criteria –
General Category – 30 Years
OBC SC/ST/PwD/Female/Transgender Category – 5 Years’ age relaxation
LLM Degree Holders – 3 Years’ age relaxation
Armed Forces – 5 Years’ age relaxation
Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
GATE, a national level exam which is organized to get admission in IITs, IISERs, IISc, and other reputed institutes of India for M.Tech/M.E./Ph.D. courses.
GATE is conducted by the IITs and IISc on a rotational basis.
There are no minimum percentage criteria in the qualifying degree to apply for the GATE exam.
Educational qualification criteria are provided below to appear for GATE Ph.D. -
Master’s degree holders in any branch of Science/ Mathematics/ Statistics/Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are in the final year of such programs
Holders of Four-year Integrated Master’s degree (Post B.Sc.) in Engineering/Technology and those who are in the second or higher year of such programs
Holders of Five-year Integrated Master’s degree or Dual Degree in Engineering/Technology and those who are in the fourth or higher year of such programmes.
Holders of Five-year integrated M.Sc. or Five-year integrated B.Sc. /M.Sc. degree and those who are in the final year of such programmes.
Note: Candidates who are appearing in the final year of their qualifying degree are also eligible to apply.
DBT Biotechnology Eligibility Test
DBT BET is conducted in two categories i.e. Category 1 and Category 2. Candidates who qualify for Category 1 of the BET exam, will be eligible for the Ph.D. courses. It is organized in the month of June by the Department of Biotechnology and coordinated by the Biotech Consortium India Limited (BCIL).

M.Sc./M.Tech./M.V.Sc. with Biotechnology
M.Sc. Neuroscience
M.Sc Molecular & Human Genetics

General/OBC/EWS Category - Minimum 60% aggregate marks in one of the above degrees from a government recognized institute
SC/ST/PwD/Transgender Category – Minimum 55% aggregate marks
Age Criteria –
General/EWS Category – 28 Years as on the last date of application
SC/ST/ Differently Abled/ Women Candidates – Up to 5 Years’ age relaxation
OBC Category – Up to 3 Years’ age relaxation
