    Structural planning is a type of spatial plan. It is an esteemed and an old planning strategy that sets forth a vision for the future development over the period of 10-20 years. Structural planning is a long established planning tool for urban planning practiced in the UK and Western Australia.
    Centralized planning is a planning method in which the coordination of economic activity, essential to the viability and functioning of a complex social economy, is undertaken through administrative means - commands, directives, targets and regulations. A complex economy is one involving multiple significant interdependencies among economic agents, including significant social division of labour and exchange among production units, rendering the viability of any unit dependent on proper coordination with, and functioning of many others. 
    Functional planning is structured to ensure smooth functioning of an organization considering the requirements of every department. The aim of such kind of planning is "to promote standardised management practices for corporate functions in the department's decentralised corporate management structure".
    Decentralised planning is a planning method wherein the planning activities travel from the Centre to the sub- state levels, i.e., district, sub-division, block and village level. The First Plan in 1952 had envisaged the significance of decentralised planning as it entails active participation of the masses in the planning process. Introduction of Panchayati Raj system is an example of decentralized planning method. It is also called Planning from below.
