b. informal communication. and grapevine means spreading rumours or speculative news and it can communicate from any level to any level. horizontal communication means communication between the persons at the equal rank. so grapevine can't be horizontal

grapevine has 5 models of spreading according to communication theorists. its doesnoy follow the channels of formal communication and therefore downward /upward / horizontal / vertical do not apply to grapevine.
