    Dear student,

    1. The criteria for accepting a PhD candidate varies from institute to institute.

    2. To get admission in IISc and IITs for the PhD, GATE or NET JRF is mandatory but for State Universities, GATE or NET JRF is not mandatory for admission in PhD because they will conduct their own exam to select the candidates.

    3. In some state universities NET qualified candidates are exempted from writing the entrance exam and they are allowed candidates to attend the interview directly.

    4. Technical institutes like IITs, NITs and others require GATE score to shortlist the candidates, followed by an interview.
