    why pka used 6.15 instead of 10.45

    Buffer capacity means the ability of substance to maintain the pH of solution. Closer the pH and pKa value, higher will be it's buffer capacity.
    While selecting a buffer solution, buffer solution with a pKa value close to target pH is selected to maximize the buffer capacity.

    That's why we used 6.15 in that question instead of 10.45 as 6.15 is closer to 7.45

    Hello     ,

    Greeting !!

    Here is the answer of your doubt,

     pH= pKa + log [conjugate base/acid]

    7.45= 6.15 + log [conjugate base/acid]

    log [conjugate base/acid] = 1.3

    Take the antilog on both sides:

    [conjugate base/acid] = 20/1

    Thank you for asking.
