    Burt (1940) separated statistically four factors of intellect, namely, (i) general factors which are common to all traits, (ii) group factors which are common to some of the traits, (iii) Specific factors that are limited to each trait whenever it is measured, (iv) error factors which are limited to each, on each particular occasion it is measured.
            Vernon presented his hierarchical group factor theory of the structure of human intellectual abilities. At the top of this hierarchy was Spearman’s general factor (g), which accounted for the largest source of the variance in intelligence. Below g were several major, minor and specific group factors.
            According to Guilford's Structure of Intellect (SI) theory (1955), an individual's performance on intelligence tests can be traced back to the underlying mental abilities or factors of intelligence.
            Daniel Goleman is a science journalist who brought "emotional intelligence" on the bestseller list and has authored a number of books on the subject, including "Emotional Intelligence," "Working With Emotional Intelligence," and, lately, of "Social Intelligence: The New Science of Human Relationships."
