CSMA/CD means Carrier Sense Multiple Access/Collision Detection protocol which ia used for carrier transmission of data frames. \n\nIf any sender wants to transmit data packets, sender first check that is the transmission link idle ? It means the sender has to keep on checking if the transmission link / medium is idle. \n\nBefore to send original data, the sender sends dummy data on the link. If it does not receive any collision signal, it means the link is idle at that moment. and then only sender sends the data. \n\nIf the sender senses the collision signal, the transmission is stopped and the station then transmits a jam signal onto the link and waits for random time interval before it reads the data. \n\nIn this way, the sender know the collision by checking the link.
