A weak bond between two molecules resulting from an electrostatic attraction between a proton in one molecule and an electronegative atom in the other. Hydrogen bond is a partial intermolecular bonding interaction between a lone pair on an electron rich donor atom, particularly the elements like Nitrogen, Oxygen, or Fluorine, and the hydrogen atom or group. Hydrogen bond is present in the very basic unit of cell, the DNA. The two strands of DNA lying antiparallel to each other in 5 prime to 3 prime direction are linked to each other via hydrogen bonds. There are 2 hydrogen bonds between adenine and thymine and 3 hydrogen bonds between guanine and cytosine. Because of its extensive hydrogen bonding, water (H2O) is liquid over a far greater range of temperatures that would be expected for a molecule of its size. Water is also a good solvent  for ionic compounds and many others because it readily forms hydrogen bonds with the solute. Hydrogen bonding between amino acids in a linear protein  molecule determines the way it folds up into its functional configuration.
