Kirby-Bauer testing i e. disc-diffusion method, bacteria are placed on a plate of solid growth medium and wafers of antibiotics (white disks, shown) are added to the plate. After allowing the bacteria to grow overnight, areas of clear media surrounding the disks indicate that the antibiotic inhibits bacterial growth. Disc diffusion is a method of finding minimum inhibitory concentration by measuring the diameter of clear zone having no bacterial growth, over solid agar plate. whereas, minmum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) are defined as the lowest concentration of an antimicrobial that will inhibit the visible growth of a microorganism after overnight incubation. thus it is generally used in liquid culture media and serial dilutions are being used.
