    In terms of work, a probationer is someone who is in a trial period of a new job. An apprentice is someone studying under a master of a trade a person who is serving a probationary or trial period in a job or position to which they are newly appointed a person who is learning a trade from a skilled employer, having agreed to work for a fixed period at low wages
