This comes primarily in the case of an operon system where there are more than one genes and all are controlled by regulatory elements. In an operon there are structural genes which are controlled by regulatory elements placed before or after them ( upsream or downstream). This system works by a switch on- off mechanism in which when a repressor binds to an operator the structural gene expression is turned off and when an activator binds to the same site structural genes are expressed. Depending on the type of operon the structural genes codes for different polypeptides. For example, Lac operon codes for 3 enzymes (z- beta galactosidase y- Lac permease a- transacetylase)

    Hello     ,

    Greeting !!

Here is the answer of your doubt,

Function of Structural genes are the segments of DNA, which carry codes for the synthesis of proteins. These genes determine the primary structure of a polypeptide chain by having the coding sequence of amino acids in them. For eg, the lac operon of E.coli contains three structural genes, i.e, z, y and a.

functon of operator gene are that Operator gene is the segment of DNA, which exercises control over transcription. The repressor substance of regulator gene has an affinity for operator gene.
