Communication is about sharing information while meta communication is about communicating something about the communication itself. Its a message within a message that conveys the sender's attitude towards self and the message; and attitude, feelings and intentions towards the listener. For example... "Dont be late". (says the boss) which means His employees are always late. or He is warning his employees not to be late. or He doubts his employees' dependability. Verbal communication uses words... written or spoken while non verbal communication uses signs, gestures and facial expressions but in meta communication choice of words unintentionally communicates something more than what the words themselves state.

when we are able to derive many conclusions out of a given statement. Such message when conveyed is known as meta communication.

Meta-communication -, or metacommunication, is a secondary communication about how a piece of information is meant to be interpreted. It is based on the idea that the same message accompanied by different meta-communication can mean something entirely different, including its opposite, as in irony.
