    Man Friday: A character of Daniel Defoe's 1719 novel Robinson Crusoe. From the name of this character came the expression "Man Friday", used to describe a male personal assistant or servant, especially one who is particularly competent or loyal.
    Uncle Toby: Captain Toby Shandy (Uncle Toby) - Tristram's uncle, and brother to Walter Shandy in the novel The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman (1759). 
    Miss Havisham: A character in the Charles Dickens novel Great Expectations (1861)
    Stephen Dedalus: Stephen Dedalus is James Joyce's literary alter ego that has been used in two of his novels.
