    no, option B is absolutely wrong because acetate ion is stabilized by equivalent resonance which is not present in methanol

    Methanol is more acidic than water because its conjugate base(methoxide) is weaker than water's conjugate base (hydroxide). ... therefore the other OH bond in CH3OH is more polar than the one in H2O as the oxygen atom in CH3OH needs more stabilisation than that in HOH . It can also be understood simply by comparing bond dissociation energy ,due to presence of methyl group in CH3OH the bond between the oxygen and hydrogen become weak and they easily released hydrogen whereas the O-H bond in water is so strong it can't cleaved easily and released hydrogen with great efforts.. therefore H2O is less acidic as compared to CH3OH
