    Australian feminist scholar, teacher, writer Dale Spender authored her book Man Made Language in 1980. She said that the English language is man-made not woman made. She examines numerous areas of sexism as it appears in nature and in the use of the English language.
    Carol Doris Chomsky (1930 –2008) was an American linguist and education specialist who studied language acquisition in children. She was the wife of Noam Chomsky as  the two having known each other since she was five years old. Her best-known work is the book The Acquisition of Syntax in Children From 5 to 10 (1969).
    Mary Rosamond Haas (1910 – 1996) was an American linguist who specialized in North American Indian languages, Thai, and historical linguistics. She completed her PhD in linguistics at Yale University in 1935 at age 25, with a dissertation titled A Grammar of the Tunica Language.
    Dorothy Leigh Sayers (1893 – 1957) was an English crime writer and poet. She was also a student of classical and modern languages. Sayers herself considered her translation of Dante’s Divine Comedy to be her best work.
