The side chain (r group) of alanine lacks functional group, it contains only hydrophobic side chain ( -CH3). Lack of functional group in the side chain makes it non-ionizable. The reason why it undergoes titration process is alpha amino group and alpha carboxylic acid group which can donate protons with changing pH.
