In accordance with the UGC Act 1956 under MHRD, governed by the Indian Government, no university is permitted to run colleges without the approval of UGC.
But many universities are running over India without the approval of UGC. Such colleges come under the category of UGC NET Fake Universities.
As per the government rule, if your affiliated degree is from such a university, then it will be considered invalid. Also, you will not be considered eligible to avail of the UGC NET Certificates, even if you have qualified the NTA NET Exam.

UGC has recently released the Fake Universities list in March 2023. According to this list, 20 universities of 8 states come under the category of UGC Fake University in India.

1. Bhartiya Shiksha Parishad, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh (The matter of declaring this fake university in UP or not is subjudiced in front of the District Judge- Lucknow).
2. As per a recent notice released by UGC, the Indian Institute of Planning and Management (IIPM), New Delhi has been declared fake and unrecognized under Section 22(3) of the University Grants Commission Act.
