sir, how it is done

= 0.46575 8. A Iherzolite xenolith from the mantle contains 40 volume % olivine, 25 volume % orthopyroxene and 35 volume % clinopyroxene. If the densities of the minerals are (in g/cc) olivine = 3.65, orthopyrOxene = 3.11 and clinopyroxene = 3.59, the bulk density of the xenoliths in g/cc

    Bulk density = Total weight / Total volume Considering 100 cm3 of rock, it will contain 40 cm3 olivine, 25 cm3 orthopyroxene and 35 cm3 clinopyroxene. Total weight= (Volume of olivine × Density of olivine) + (Volume of orthopyroxene × Density of orthopyroxene) + (Volume of clinopyroxene × Density of clinopyroxene) = (40 × 3.65) + (25 × 3.11) + (35 × 3.59) = 349.4 gm Bulk density = Total weight / Total volume = 349.4 gm / 100 cm3 = 3.494 gm/cm3 So, the answer should be 3.494 gm/cm3
