10. OROGENESIS : describes process of mountain building. the processes that 1o the land surface in <50 million years. The processes that produce mountain belts is called orogenesis. Orogeny is an ongoing process an last for tens of milions or years. when uplift ceases, erosive forces planes the mountains back ar The active mountain chains as indicated by the occurrence of earthquakes. Alpine and Himalayan orogeny occurs where a block of Continental crust is carried into collision with other crustal plates. But most active mountain chains lie on continental plates in collision with oceanic crust.

Orogenesis is the process of mountain building. The term mountain building implies that the rate of surface uplift is greater than the rate of erosion such that, over time, a lowland area evolves into a mountain system. Orogeny refers specifically to deformation imposed during mountain building. Although mountains form in a variety of ways, most geologists associate orogeny with continental-size mountain systems that develop along an entire continental margin as a result of the convergence and accretion of two or more tectonic plates. Such a compressional mountain system is known geologically as an orogenic plates (or orogenic system). An orogenic belt is a deformational belt. The energy for orogeny is derived from horizontal compression, gravity, heat, and climate, particularly climate-driven erosion.

Sir, Is mountain building only considered of continental-continental collision.? or also continental oceanic collision.

    eduncle-logo-app

Both are considered as mountain building. For eg. Andes mountains are formed by oceanic and continental plate collisions.
