    The three components plotted on AFM diagrams are derived from a tetragonal diagram, with minerals Al2O3, K2O, FeO, and MgO. In given diagram,the line which connects garnet and chlorite that's not possible because this tie lines cannot cut the tie lines between biotite nd staurolite . (The tie lines can not be cross the other tie lines) Here we have two kinds of rock present one which contains Staurolite, garnet and biotite and other contains Staurolite, Chlorite and biotite. So, X and W have similar compositions (but variations can be there like percentage will be different). Similarly Y and Z have similar mineral compositions. Thus, correct answer should be B .

    why staurolite - biotite tie line possible.. why can't we draw garnet - chlorite tie line instead of staurolite - biotite
