Secondary amines (−NH− group) give an oily nitrosoamine, when reacts with aqueous HNO2 at low temperature. Thus, diethylamine being a 2∘ amine. gives an oily product with HNO2 at low temperature.

option C Secondary amines (−NH− group) give an oily nitrosoamine, when reacts with aqueous HNO2 at low temperature. Thus, diethylamine being a 2∘ amine. gives an oily product with HNO2 at low temperature. Explanation- Only primary amine gives nitrogen gas when reacts with nitrous acid. Whereas secondary amine gives nitrosamine and tertiary amine gives  ammonium salt. Among all options, Dimethyl amine is an example for secondary amine.  Secondary amines reacts with nitrous acid to give yellow solution of nitroso amine without liberating nitrogen. Hence, it won't liberate nitrogen gas. Option C is correct.
