option(2) On moving down the group effective overlap decreases because of s and p orbitals are involved in bonding which more towards nucleus. while d orbitals are mainly involved in bonding for transition metals. Consequently heat of atomisation (lesser energy is required to break bond) also decreases on increasing atomic number (less bond strength) due to poor overlapping of s and p orbitals.
