    but sir why we are not choosing as oldest fossil as best indicator of age of rock. means why interval, if we have more older data i.e. 480 Byrs

    because both the fossil are present in the stata and we take the common age....480 we don't take because that is the range of Fossil not the rock... we are considering both Fossil range common part to know the range.

    Answer (a) 445 million years If the sedimentary rocks contain two fossils of different age range then that sedimentary rocks must had formed when both the fossils survived. By looking at the given age ranges it can be found that both fossils simultaneously lived during 450 - 430 million years ago. So, the sedimentary rocks should be of age between 450 - 430 million years. There is only one option (445 million years) lies in this range, so the correct answer should be 445 million years.
