An element with pseudo noble gas configuration has 18 electrons in outermost shell instead of 8

    eduncle-logo-app

And fajans rule states that elements having pseudo noble gas configuration has high polarising power than elements having inert gas configuration

    eduncle-logo-app

So Cucl has more covalent character than Nacl

    eduncle-logo-app

you know ionic compounds has high MP than covalent compounds

    eduncle-logo-app

    got this ?

Have you read about pseudo noble gas configuration?

    eduncle-logo-app

In fajans rule you studied about pseudo noble gas configuration

    eduncle-logo-app

    Yes I know about it

    eduncle-logo-app

    explaining

    eduncle-logo-app

    when depolarisation increase mp increase

    eduncle-logo-app

why in this case it is reversed

    eduncle-logo-app

polarisation occurs then more covalent character according to fajans rule and depolarization means less covalent character

    eduncle-logo-app

ionic molecule have more mp then covalent compound

    eduncle-logo-app

yes...strong electrostatic forces of attraction is there in ionic compound

    eduncle-logo-app

but in this case when depolarisation occurred why melting point decrease

    eduncle-logo-app

    please explain

    eduncle-logo-app

don't read by considering this terms just take the example in first case...Cu+ has pseudo noble gas configuration and Na+ has inert gas configuration so Cucl has more covalent character than nacl so less MP than NaCl

    eduncle-logo-app

I think in that sentance there should be polarization

    eduncle-logo-app

yes fajans rule clearly states with pseudo noble gas configuration more polarising power of cations so more polarisation so more covalent character
