Lattice energy is defined as the energy required to separate a mole of an ionic solid into gaseous ions. The 2 factors that contributes to the lattice energy of an ionic solid are charge on the ions & the size of the ions. Lattice energy increases with the increase in ionic charge and decreases with the increase in the ionic size.
