A strike slip fault dips 45° towards s45°e.what is the possible trend of slickenside?(azimuthal reading

    Answer: Trend of slickenside = 045 (or, N45E) Since it is a strike slip Fault, the trend of slickenside will be same as of strike direction of the fault plane. Trend of slickenside = Strike direction = S45E - 90 = 135 - 90 = 45° So, the trend of slickenside = 045 = N45E

    Yes, trend is always indicated as two opposite directions. By convention, we only write one direction because other one is automatically understood (by adding 180). So, if I am writing trend as 045, by convention it indicates 045-225.
